English Teams in the Champions League

The Champions League this season is going to be more intense than ever and for the first time in 20 years, the English line-up is missing one very familiar face, Arsenal. With a record of securing a direct spot in Europe’s elite competition, Arsenal shocked the world when they failed to finish in the top 4 and will now have to contend with life in the Europa League. So what chances do the English teams in the Champions League have?

  • Chelsea

With a recent surge in form and the arrival of Alvaro Morata to the squad, Chelsea are the most likely English team to have a shot at landing that big-eared trophy. Having missed out on the competition last year this could be the season they wrest the title from the clutches of Madrid and bring it back to English soil for the first time in 5 years

  • Manchester City

Having barely scraped through into the top 4, Manchester City are looking to re-write their history by going all out for the trophy this coming season. Champions League has not been very kind to the Citizens and the furthest they have ever reached so far is the semi-finals in 2015/2016. Chances of them getting any further this season still look low

  • Tottenham Hotspurs

Having become regulars at this competition Spurs have been producing less than stroller performances in the Champions League with their perennial group stage exits summing up their short stint at this stage. Despite always having the luck of falling into the easy group it appears they have never quite gotten used to this level of football. They stand no chance.

  • Liverpool

Another surprise entrant this season, No chance of them going past the group stage. They still have qualifiers to play

  • Manchester United

Having secured a spot through winning the Europa League they have the second best chance of going far this season. With new players like Lukaku and Matic they have the spine needed to go toe to toe with the big boys like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
